Wonder Woman: Warbringer: Review

“She grabbed him by his collar.

‘What are you?’ he gasped.

A hundred answers came to mind, but she opted for the easiest one.

‘A tourist.’”

– Leigh Bardugo Wonder Woman: Warbringer

**Spoilers**

I felt the beginning of the novel was slow. The chapters felt long, and I was having trouble getting into the plot. It didn’t help that I wasn’t loving Alia. The plot picked up when Diana began experiencing New York City, and after meeting Nim, I felt closer to Alia and she grew on me. I loved the spark between Diana and Jason, AND THEN JASON HAD TO MESS IT UP. I honestly didn’t see that plot twist coming, I thought maybe Theo or Nim were the traitors. Guess not. I really thought Nim had a cute personality. The middle of the novel really picked up more speed to the ending. I didn’t like how Jason also had strength and speed close to Diana’s. Diana and Superman (and supergirl) are supposed to be the only people that could equal in strength. But seriously, Jason’s betrayal was the worst. I loved seeing another origin story of Wonder Woman, and a different version of her leaving the island. I can’t wait to read Marie Lu’s Batman!

Candide: Review

I feel like this book has a hype around it since it’s a classic, especially since it’s by Voltaire, but honestly I was not too impressed by it. I rated this book three out of five stars. There was a lot of humor and the book made good points, but overall I found my mind wandering from the page. The text was easy to understand and straightforward, but I did not care enough about the plot to take the reading as seriously as I normally do. The humor in this book was mainly from irony and situations that seemed so impractical and exaggerated that you could not help but laugh in disbelief. The point of this story was well know, and I thought it was brilliant how Voltaire managed to make his point with the plot. To end this short review, this book was not as much as I thought it would be.

Forever (The Shiver Series #3): Review

I really enjoyed this novel, and rated it four of five stars! I wish Grace and Sam had come together sooner in the book, but the reunion was better overall because they had been apart for so long. I loved the banter going back and forth between Isabel and Cole, they were adorable together! I liked how they added Rachel in the know about the werewolves, but was expecting a bigger reaction once Rachel found out Isabel knew; the scene where Rachel found out Isabel knew wasn’t that dramatic and sadly disappointing. I liked how Sam had the chance to forgive Beck and come to terms with the fact that he wasn’t always honest; it gave the novel a depth about relationships between guardians and the people they raise. It was unrealistic when the cop Sam befriends saw Cole and automatically knew he was famous; middle-aged men don’t usually recognize kid musicians that teenage girls fangirl over. I was emotional when I thought Cole had died, and then so relieved when he was not; that was such a Cole thing to do. I’m definitely going to continue with the next installment in the series, Sinner.

They Both Die at the End: Review

“You may be born into a family, but you walk into friendships. Some you’ll discover you should put behind you. Others are worth every risk” – Adam Silvera

SPOILERS

I am going to start off by saying how much I hate Peck; he is the kind of character that only thinks with his d*ck and does really idiotic things. I also could not get attached to Aimee, if I knew someone that was like family to me and then found out my boyfriend called the cops on them on their death day, the would be dumped in a heartbeat. For not automatically breaking up with Peck, I can not forgive Aimee. At least not completely. The character development for both Mateo and Rufus was tremendous! I relate so much to Mateo, and hope that one day I’ll be brave enough to break out of this comfort zone I’ve created.  I kind of wanted to see the dad wake up for Rufus so that they could have a heart-to-heart moment, but I loved that Rufus left a note on a napkin. Adam Silvera HAD to leave the conclusion open-ended! I want to know what happened to Rufus and Delilah! Did they die in the same diner, or was it a coincidence they were both near Althea Park? I rated this book a 4/5 stars, and loved it so much. Last thing: there were so many song references when they were in the club, and I was looking all of them up and jamming to music while reading, and I thought it was cool how Adam Silvera incorporated song options in the book.

All the Crooked Saints: Review

I was so excited to go into this book! Unfortunately, overall it didn’t meet my expectations. By no means was this a bad novel; I thought the writing style was interesting and I loved the different cultural influences that went into the characters. The main disappointment was that some of the description, imagery, was unnecessary and caused my mind to wander; it was hard to focus on the book and not become distracted, while in Maggie Stiefvater’s other novels, I couldn’t stop reading. The love stories felt rushed and unrealistic, with characters falling in love without having a deep conversation, sometimes any conversation first. The end felt rush and didn’t conclude all the problems that began and progressed through the story, which was irritating. The concept of miracles and darkness was very interesting and I loved how it developed. The answer to the climax of the darkness was interesting to me and solved a huge problem that the Soria’s allowed for many generations. The novel as a whole was good, but could have been better.

In Cold Blood: Review

I enjoyed this book, and gave it a rating of four of five stars on Goodreads. While some parts went by slow for me, a majority enticed me and educated me in a way I didn’t expect. I liked the fact that Truman Capote decided to write based on a true crime and ended up informing me about a case I was unfamiliar with. The novel allows a larger audience to come to terms with the fact that there are people out in the world that don’t emotionally respond the same way to situations as sane people do. The novel questions what it means to be sane, or insane and how the killers themselves feel about their mentality and whether or not they’re “normals”. The descriptions in the novel created an emotional response from me, by making me more attached to people and places mentally. With being attached to characters the larger events in the novel, made me more emotional about the specific deaths rather than if I had only read about the death, and not the lives before it. The end of the novel saddened me a lot, attempting to imagine what Nancy Clutter could be doing with her life if it was not for a few random events that managed to take place. This novel was eye opening and interesting, but had a few very long and very descriptive moments.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi: Review

** SPOILERS**

I loved this movie! I know a lot of fans didn’t like it, but I guess I’m not as dedicated to Star Wars, so whatever. I really ship Reylo, if you did not know, and I loved all the tension in their scenes they had together, with that force thing that connected them mentally when they were physically apart. I loved how Kylo turned on Snoke and killed him, but I kind of wanted to further the development of the villain. I hate how Kylo is repeating history and asks Rey to rule The First Order with him; just like Anakin asked Padme to rule The Empire. So sad to think about.  I don’t know how I feel about Leia not dying in space, I feel like she should have died there, especially since Carrie Fisher is dead; A lot of people loved how she could use the force, but honestly I was not feeling it. I loved seeing Yoda again! He’s still teaching Luke after all this time, and it felt like the good old days. I loved how they burned down the ancient Jedi works to prove the point that the Jedi are not made from pieces of paper. The Porgs were adorable! And I loved the relationship Chewie and the Porgs had in the film, it was so cute. I’m glad Rey’s parents came from nothing, but i’ve been hearing people say that it was a lie and those are not her real parents, so who knows. I thought the whole plot with Finn and Rose was pointless, but it’s fine; and I found Poe to be a little to reckless in this film. I hope a relationship between Finn and Rose develops into more because I don’t want Finn with Rey. Rose was adorable in my opinion, and a good addition to the cast. Overall I really enjoyed this film!

Keeping it to bullet points, like normal! Here’s my random thoughts of the Defenders season 1.

SPOILERS

  • I love that Claire has connected with all the Defenders
  • I wonder how Karen first reacted tot he fact that Matt was Daredevil?
  • I LOVED THAT ELECTRA CAME BACK
  • Everything comes back to the Hand
  • Madame Gao is literally everywhere
  • The police should STAY OUT OF THE WAY, they obviously can’t do anything
  • I can’t wait to see Matt come back, it scared me that he almost died. Electra better be alive too.
  • I hope Jessica is not expecting a romance with Luke again. He’s taken. I love Luke and Claire together.
  • I always love Matt’s reaction when Stick appears
  • I just need the next season of Daredevil to be honest.
